Flag Day in Panama
Today is Flag Day in Panama – if their flag day is like Flag Day in most other countries I don’t expect you’ll experience anything out of the ordinary in Panama. Certainly the design speaks a lot of Panama’s traditional closeness with the United States (The US played a role in Panama’s separation from Columbia in 1903). Needless to say, the students of Turkmenistan dream of one day having a flag like this.
The white in the flag represents peace, the blue star stands for purity and honesty (and the Conservative party), and the red star symbolizes authority and law (and the Liberal party). This flag was adopted on December 20, 1903, and was designed by Panama’s revolutionary leader and first President, Manuel Amador Guerrero.
